Kalesma Mykonos

Mykonos, Greece

In a peaceful spot on the island, this authentic Mykonian retreat mimics a small, white-washed village with revitalising wellness and soul food at its heart.

Key Features

  • An idyllic retreat overlooking the Aegean Sea
  • 25 one-bedroom suites and villas, 2 grand villas (3 & 4 bedrooms that can interconnect to offer a 7 bedroom)
  • Classic Greek cuisine with a modern twist, offering indoor and outdoor dining
  • Spa with products and treatments by Dr Barbara Sturm

Nestled on the northwest of the island, in Aleomandra (named after the stables where myth says Apollo kept his horses), Kalesma Mykonos is in one of the most exclusive locations on the island. Sitting on the spine of a hill, it affords stunning sunrise and sunset views over Ornos Bay, with just a short drive down to the beach.

Inspired by classic Mykonian architecture, the interiors have a meditative quality to them, with smoothly curved walls and chestnut ceilings. These tranquil spaces blur the boundary beween indoors and out, with the open-air concept allowing guests to interact with the surroundings and make the most of the breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. And speaking of the views, each suite has a private terrace with a plunge pool, shaded dining area, and alfresco shower so you can marvel at them whenever, wherever.

If you can tear yourself away from your serene suite, wander round Kalesma’s gardens planted with 60-year-old olive trees, vines, citrus fruits and fragrant herbs. At the heart of the property is the hotel’s plateia (town square), bordered by the infinity pool, cocktail bar, and Pere Ubu Restaurant. For the ultimate relaxing afternoon, head to the spa, offering products and treatments designed by Dr Barbara Sturm, including two treatment rooms, a hammam, and a cryotherapy area offering respite from the warm, Mediterranean sun.

Rather than serving modern fusion dishes, the Pere Ubu Restaurant focuses on classic ingredients and time-honoured dishes, giving the food a real sense of place. As the highest building on the grounds, it offers commanding views over the pool, Ornos Bay, and the island of Delos beyond, so you can enjoy Cycladic classics with unbeatable vistas. Expect local cheeses and dips (think tzatziki and taramasalata), freshly baked pita, spiced lamb meatballs, octopus, and Mediterranean sea bass.

Kalesma takes an energy, water and waste-saving approach to all aspects of the property, and has a well-defined ethos and approach to sustainable operations. Committed to sourcing materials from local and regional businesses throughout the hotel and in the restaurant, it educates guests on the local communities, their culture, and their heritage. Energy-saving technology is utilised across the property, and solar panels are being installed with the aim of 100% sustainable energy sources by October 2024.
