The Arctic Hideaway

Sorvaer, Norway

Overview

Embark on a true off-grid experience at the Arctic Hideaway, surrounded by never-ending views, dramatic mountains, and picturesque islands. Stay in ultimate seclusion on Sorvaer Island, where cars and shops don’t exist, and the next nearest piece of land is the east coast of Greenland, promising a remote retreat unlike any other.

Key Features

  • Set on the car-free Sorvaer Island, Arctic Hideaway offers total off-grid seclusion complete with panoramic views of a dramatic mountain range and the surrounding Fleinvaer Archipelago.
  • Four architecturally striking private cabins are crafted from sustainable Kebony timber and raised on steel columns, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the spectacular Arctic vistas.
  • Five communal spaces, including a chill-out cabin and a luxurious sauna, are complemented by a private pier, an open pantry, and the option to have expert chefs on hand to craft a range of exceptional Norwegian cuisine.
  • Conceived by jazz musician Havard Lund as a sanctuary for creative thinking, the retreat invites you to explore fishing, bird watching, island tours, and hiking across this peaceful and remote Arctic landscape.

Design

Marvel at the truly unique design of this architecturally striking collection of eco-friendly cabins. Constructed from sustainable wood, each timber cabin is raised on steel columns with large windows allowing for spectacular views over the Fleinvaer Archipelago. Two cabins host double beds, two host twin beds and each has ultimately been created for guests to be inspired by their natural surroundings. Discover something different in each communal cabin and find everything you require for a wonderful stay. Relax with music in the chill-out cabin’s cosy chairs or unwind in the luxurious sauna.

Cuisine

The property’s open pantry provides an array of delicious ingredients for guests to cook their own food throughout their stay. Alternatively, expert chefs from neighbouring Bodo can be organised to prepare breakfasts, seasonal lunches, and 3-course dinners of tasty Norwegian cuisine. Despite its deconstructed appearance, the entire property can be hired exclusively to feel entirely remote and connected with nature.

Sustainability

The Arctic Hideaway has been carefully designed to leave no footprint on the natural landscape, using low-maintenance, sustainable materials throughout - most notably the long-lasting Kebony wood cladding that gives each cabin its distinctive character. Waste is composted or recycled wherever possible, and the property has plans to grow its own vegetables on-site, taking another step towards true self-sufficiency in this remote Arctic setting.

Why we love it

The Arctic Hideaway was conceived by Havard Lund, a jazz musician and composer with a vision to create something truly unlike anywhere else. His driving focus was to build a space that encourages creative thinking and deep contemplation, stripping away the noise of everyday life and inviting you to fully engage with your surroundings. The result is a retreat that feels as much like an artistic experience as it does a place to stay.
