Rich in Guatemalan décor, with thatched roofs and nestled amongst the foliage of Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve, Blancaneaux is the ideal backdrop to your Belize explorations. The remote mountain setting is perfect for investigating the ancient civilization of Maya. Choose between garden or riverfront view cabañas which showcase native arts and antiques, features a queen-size bed, large screened-in porch with a hammock which will transport you to an exotic, tropical paradise. Other options include the luxury villa which is more spacious and has its own feature pool. For the ultimate retreat, follow in the director’s footsteps and stay in Francis Ford Coppola’s personal villa, with an open plan living space with a hammock looking out over the jungle and a personal plunge pool in a lush tropical garden.

Cuisine

The retreat offers a myriad of dining options, for Italian cuisine the Montagna Ristorante features a variety of Coppola family favourites and personal recipes from the southern region of Basilicata, Italy. For more authentic Guatemalan cuisine, the poolside Guatemaltecqua restaurant has dishes mildly spiced that draws on Mexican, Caribbean and Maya traditions. For a nightcap, there’s no place better than the Jaguar Bar, swap stories with fellow travellers over a Mojito at the hand-carved slate bar and under ceiling fans from the set of Apocalypse Now.

Sustainability

The eco-conscious establishment integrates sustainable practices into its operations, including the organic cultivation of all fresh produce on-site in its kitchen farm and gardens. Its architecture emphasizes blending with the environment, employing environmentally sound materials such as thatch, bamboo, and regionally produced tiles. Landscaping features local and regional plants that minimize the need for intensive irrigation. Energy and water conservation are prioritized through strategies like mulching to reduce transpiration from flower beds and the use of alternative cooling methods instead of air conditioning in villas.

Why we love it

For a truly unique dining experience, join fellow guests for a “convivial dinner” offered twice weekly in the organic garden. With cocktails on arrival and a tour of the organic farm and gardens from the head gardener, sit under the terrace amongst candlelight to taste the delights of the vibrant flavours found in the freshest ingredients.
