Design

The arrival to Punakha across a suspension bridge entwined with prayer flags, taking you over the aquamarine Mo Chu River sets the tone for the rest of your stay at this magical lodge. A traditional Bhutanese farmhouse adapted with modern luxuries, the lodge is home to eight elegant suites with views across an orange orchard and rice terraces. All have grand king-sized beds, wood-burning stoves and en-suites with feature baths. Punakha is also home to a spa which includes a yoga and meditation room, and a variety of treatments centred around the healing rituals and spiritual traditions integral to the Buddhist nature of Bhutan.

Cuisine

The dining is served on the stunning outdoor terrace, although this can be flexible if an intimate private dinner would be preferred, with sweeping views over the valley. The fresh flavours of Himalayan and western culinary cultures meeting, mealtimes are a truly special and memorable experience.

Why we love it

A visit to the morning market captures the welcoming nature of the local community. The chef will guide you around chatting to the suppliers and then you can join him as he teaches you how to make an authentic Bhutanese meal.
