Sitting on the coast of Søvågen, Holmen Lofoten is a family-run hotel and restaurant dramatically set among the rugged and wild Lofoten Islands. The owner grew up on the island, living off the land and sea, and that authentic experience is key to every guest’s visit to Holmen.

Accommodation

Traditional fisherman’s cabins have been carefully converted into cosy accommodations while retaining their original magic and are joined by new rooms that fuse traditional and modern methods. Aside from the mountain or ocean view rooms, there are the suites complete with a shower room and sauna, kitchenette and living space with wood-fired stove, as well as panoramic ocean views. Or, opt for a rorbuer (cabin) for the true Lofoten experience. Sleeping between five and 11, ideal for families or groups, sleep in traditional yet comfortable wooden bunk beds and reminisce over the day’s activities in front of the wood-fired stove.

Dining

Dining is at the heart of any experience at Holmen. The remote location and unpredictable weather means Lofoten has to be largely self-sufficient, and the property uses the best local ingredients, from fresh seafood, wild mushrooms and berries, grouse, and lamb (to name but a few).

Why we love it

Their Kitchen on the Edge of the World experience is the biggest draw, focusing on fostering a sense of community. During the day, curate your wild experience as you fish, hike, hunt, gather and craft, or simply cosy up by the fire. Each night, join a select handful of fellow guests at the chef’s table (be it in the restaurant or in the wild), watching the feast unfold as you sip on carefully created cocktails.
