Sommerro

Oslo, Norway

Overview

This luxurious urban retreat brings Art Deco glamour and incredible wellness facilities to one of Oslo’s oldest neighbourhoods.

Key Features

  • 231 sumptuous Art Deco rooms accented with traditional Nordic flare
  • Sunbathe or swim in Oslo’s first rooftop pool, or enjoy a sunset view on the adjacent terrace
  • Three bars and four restaurants serving everything from from Spanish tapas to Nordic-Japanese fusion
  • Sprawling 1400m2 wellness centre and spa that includes the revival of the city’s original Art Deco public baths
  • An underground cinema with weekly screenings

Located in the upmarket Frogner neighbourhood, near the royal palace, Sommerro occupies what was formerly the offices of Oslo Lysverker, the city’s electric company, as well as a public bathhouse dating back to the 1930s. This iconic landmark has been meticulously transformed into a luxury boutique hotel that pays homage to its history through mixing original Art Deco details with modern tributes.

Accommodation

There are a total of 231 stylish and characterful rooms here, from cosy loft spaces to lavish suites decked out in a warm colour palette of reds, greens and different woods, with stand-out Art Deco inspired headboards and opulent furniture in each room.

Dining

At Sommerro, food is an integral part of the experience. There are a total of three bars and four restaurants, so everyone’s tastebuds will be well catered for. At Plah, guests are treated to a chef’s table experience by Norway’s best Thai chef, while Barramon dishes up excellent Spanish tapas and wine. Tea salon To Søstre serves rich cakes accompanied by classic music, and Ekspedisjonshallen is a local favourite all-day dining spot. Still hungry? Head up to the top floor to Tak Oslo, the capital’s only rooftop restaurant serving an innovative blend of the Nordic and Japanese cuisine.

One of Sommerro’s biggest draws is arguably the 1400m2 wellness centre and spa, Vestkantbadet. Here, what once was the city’s public baths has been glamorously transformed into a state-of-the-art facility offering everything from spa treatments and massages to medical and cosmetic treatments, performed in the original 1930s wooden cubicles. There’s also an infrared sauna and cold plunge pool, a gym, and an indoor swimming pool beautifully surrounded by the original 1930s mosaic of swimmers and seals.

Why we love it

Sommerro is unmatched in Oslo, with its historic and artistic design, luxurious accommodations, and exceptional amenities. The beautifully preserved original Art Deco paired with an extensive collection of artworks and stylish furnishings blend historic charm with contemporary elegance. With well-appointed rooms and spacious suites, top-tier dining options, a rooftop bar, and a wellness centre, every guest is guaranteed a memorable and indulgent stay.
