"Whether it’s through hands-on conservation or community involvement, Pelorus inspires people to contribute to the world around them. It’s this impact—this drive to make a difference in the places we explore—that encouraged me to take part in the marathon."

Jimmy Carroll

From taking part in the Talisker Whisky Challenge Row across the Atlantic and ultra-marathons to founding the London to Monaco bike ride, Jimmy Carroll is no stranger to phsyical endurance challenges. This November, Jimmy will be running the New York Marathon in aid of the Pelorus Foundation.

Despite a recent diagnosis revealing significant deterioration in part of his spine, and only receiving his place in the marathon with 2 months' notice, Jimmy is determined to get into marathon-running shape and complete the 26.2-mile course in New York City on 3 November. It's a tough challenge to take on.

The funds raised will help to support local grassroots project partners who work tirelessly on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Every contribution will help protect and preserve endangered wildlife and wild places.

WORDS FROM JIMMY

"It's been four years since I last took on a major challenge—rowing across the Atlantic—and I’ve really missed having something to focus on physically. This marathon is a completely different challenge for me, especially after the recent diagnosis with my spine, and having limited time to prepare. But that’s what motivates me—it’s tough, but it’s about pushing limits.

Mental health is a big part of why I take on these challenges. They always take me outdoors, into natural environments, which has been a key motivator for me. While the New York Marathon will be my first challenge in an urban landscape, I have been lucky to do some of my training in some amazing places including Iceland, Norway and across the US.

The Pelorus Foundation plays a huge role in this journey, and it’s one of my biggest motivations for taking on the marathon. The Foundation is central to everything we do at Pelorus, and through it, we support incredible projects focused on conservation, community engagement, and environmental cleanup. The opportunity to raise funds for these initiatives is deeply meaningful to me, and it aligns perfectly with our mission at Pelorus: to create bespoke experiences for our clients while leaving a lasting, positive impact on the planet."
