Majestic Meru

Begin your journey in the East African hub of Arusha, settling in before your safari adventure truly begins. Tucked away amidst a working coffee plantation, spend an afternoon admiring Mount Meru in the distance, or for those looking to kickstart their adventure, take to the skies in a helicopter to land atop the mountain itself. Arrive just in time to watch the sunset over the Great Rift Valley, taking in the jaw-dropping views from all angles.

Mount Meru is Africa’s fourth-highest peak, as well as one of East Africa's largest stratovolcanoes, making it a fascinating geological study. As you soar nearly 10,000 feet in the air, the extreme angle of the volcano’s outer slope will leave you breathless, and as you continue to rise, the pyramid-shaped Ash Cone towers over the caldera, offering a perfect landing spot - perhaps Africa’s most stunning picnic location.

Craters, Calderas and Culture

Today, more fascinating topography awaits as you travel to the eighth wonder of the natural world - the Ngorongoro Crater. Evidence suggests that humans were in this area for over three million years, and so the chance to explore alongside your expert guide will truly bring classroom lessons to life for young history and geography students. Sixteen kilometres in diameter, with an unmatched variety of wildlife – some 25,000 animals – make game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater extra exciting, with the chance of spotting buffalo, leopard, lion, elephant, and hyena. Returning to your luxury lodge, located at the highest elevation point in the area, you will be rewarded with sweeping views of mountainous forests and grassy plains below.

Hike to the top of Olmoti for more astounding views and walk down to the soda lake in Empakaai Crater to see thousands of pink flamingos. This volcanic caldera stands at a height of 300 meters, and is encircled by a steep, densely forested wall. Setting out on a trek through this beautiful UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, you’ll hike all the way up to the crater’s rim – looking out over the Great Rift Valley to the distant silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro. For a cultural highlight, visit a local Maasai village, where you may be invited to a unique dining experience, sharing an authentic tribal meal with a few of the locals.

Serengeti Safari

Set off to the Grumeti Game Reserve in the wildlife-rich Serengeti, where this seemingly endless open expanse inspires a greater connection to nature - and to each other. For the next few nights, gaze out over the plains from your luxury lodge, masterfully blended into the landscape and providing front-row seats to the spectacle of the Serengeti. The strategic location makes for exceptional game viewing with zebra, buffalo, and giraffe often visible, and multiple spots around the reserve to stop for sundowner drinks or intimate bush dinners.

The Grumeti Game Reserve is a private area of over 350,000 acres, perfect for a quintessential family safari. Children of all ages are welcome, and an exciting range of activities are available, both on and off the vehicle. Birdwatching, photography, stargazing, and swimming, along with cooking classes, tennis, a Mini Rangers’ course, and wildlife tracking are all on offer. Walks are an incredible way to immerse deep into the bushveld, allowing you to experience your surroundings at a slower, more detailed pace. For a truly exceptional morning, rise early for a morning of hot air ballooning, experiencing the vastness of the Serengeti as the sun rises.

Private Island Paradise

After your adrenaline-filled days on safari, it’s time to relax and truly unwind – following a short flight to Zanzibar and boat transfer to your Indian Ocean hideaway. Stay in unpretentious luxury on a secluded island, spending your days sea kayaking and exploring. Swim, snorkel or dive in the tropical Indian Ocean, encountering abundant marine life, including turtles and dolphins. With a fully stocked dive centre, scuba diving around the atoll is a must; share the water with turtles, ghost crabs and schools of tropical fish.

Relish the thrill of watersports from the powder-soft white sandy beaches and witness fisherman sailing in traditional dhow and ngalawa boats. Head to Zanzibar to experience the island’s diverse and rich culinary scene on a spice tour, witnessing the mix of cultures this Swahili trading town boasts including Arab, Indian, and European influences, as well as indigenous cultural elements, before journeying home, ready to share stories of your enchanting East African family adventure.
