One hundred miles from the nearest road, Ultima Thule Lodge is a place beyond civilisation providing access only through private chartered bush planes.
The main lodge houses the dining room, open kitchen where there is a permanent smell of freshly baked bread, and a living room with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the Chitina River and mountains to the south. Meals are a family occasion at Ultima with guests swapping adventure stories over the freshest Alaskan ingredients, including wild salmon caught that very day and organic vegetables from the kitchen garden.
