Responsible Claims & Communications

Being clear about what we do, and what we do not claim

At Pelorus, credibility matters. We believe environmental, social and community-related claims should be clear, accurate and supported by evidence.

As our approach to responsible business continues to evolve, we are committed to communicating our progress with the same care we apply to the experiences we create. That means distinguishing between what we have achieved, what we are working towards and where further progress is still required.

We do not believe responsible business should be communicated through broad claims alone. Wherever we speak about our impact, initiatives or commitments, we aim to provide the context and evidence needed to understand what those claims mean in practice.

Our approach

When communicating about our business, experiences and impact, we are committed to:

  • Making claims that are truthful, accurate and capable of being substantiated.

  • Avoiding misleading, exaggerated or unverified statements.

  • Clearly distinguishing between commitments, ambitions and demonstrated outcomes.

  • Supporting environmental and social claims with credible evidence wherever appropriate.

  • Providing sufficient context so that claims are not presented in a way that could mislead.

  • Being transparent about progress, limitations and areas where further work is needed.

  • Reviewing our communications regularly to ensure information remains accurate and relevant.

What this applies to

These principles apply across Pelorus communications, including statements relating to:

  • Climate and environmental action.

  • Conservation and biodiversity.

  • Community contributions and partnerships.

  • Human rights and responsible business practices.

  • Supplier and partner standards.

  • Diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • The Pelorus Foundation and projects it supports.

  • The Climate Investment Fund and related contributions.

  • Responsible travel practices and journey design.

  • Charitable partnerships and social initiatives.

They apply across our website, editorial content, marketing, press communications, sales materials and client-facing conversations.

Evidence before claims

Where we make a material environmental or social claim, we will support it with the appropriate evidence.

Depending on the claim, that evidence may include data, methodology, policies, supplier information, third-party standards, project reporting or information provided by recognised partners.

We also distinguish carefully between activities undertaken directly by Pelorus, initiatives that Pelorus financially supports and work delivered independently by partner organisations or the Pelorus Foundation.

This distinction is particularly important when communicating conservation, community and climate-related outcomes, where our contribution may form part of a wider programme rather than represent the entirety of its impact.

Communicating climate action responsibly

Travel, yachting and aviation have environmental impacts, and we believe those impacts should be communicated openly rather than obscured by simplified sustainability claims.

Where we discuss emissions, climate contributions, environmental projects or reduction initiatives, we aim to explain what has been measured, how it has been calculated and what action has been taken.

We avoid presenting contributions, climate finance or environmental projects as evidence that the impact of a journey has been eliminated unless this can be fully substantiated.

Our aim is to communicate progress accurately while recognising the complexity of reducing the environmental impact associated with global travel.

Two red chairs sit on a sleek yacht deck, overlooking turquoise waters. Several small sailboats and watercraft are neatly arranged on the deck, with a bright blue sky and a few clouds visible in the background.

Progress, not perfection

Responsible business is an ongoing process.

Our communications should reflect that. Alongside achievements, we will be open about areas where our approach is developing, where better data is needed and where challenges remain.

We believe this creates a more meaningful form of accountability and allows our clients, partners and wider community to understand both the progress we are making and the work still ahead.

Governance

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure compliance with evolving regulations, industry standards and best practices.
