Supplier & Partner Standards

Choosing partners with care

The quality of every Pelorus experience depends on the people and organisations we work with around the world.

From destination specialists and guides to hotels, transport providers, activity operators, aviation partners and yacht owners, we select partners for their ability to deliver exceptional experiences safely, reliably and responsibly.

Our approach balances the quality of the client experience with operational expertise, commercial integrity and consideration for people, communities and the environment.

What we look for

When assessing suppliers and partners, we consider a range of factors, including:

  • Quality and expertise: consistently high standards of service, strong destination knowledge and the ability to deliver complex, bespoke experiences.

  • Safety and reliability: appropriate operational processes, contingency planning and the ability to deliver services safely and efficiently.

  • Legal and regulatory compliance: relevant licences, permits, insurance and compliance with applicable local laws and regulations.

  • Ethical business practices: respect for human rights, fair treatment of workers, responsible employment practices and appropriate standards around anti-bribery, anti-corruption and supply chain management.

  • Environmental responsibility: efforts to reduce waste and environmental impact, adopt more responsible operating practices and protect the environments in which they work.

  • Community consideration: respect for local cultures and communities, and where possible, meaningful support for local economies, livelihoods and conservation initiatives.

  • Commercial transparency: clear pricing, fair terms and a relationship that is sustainable for both parties.

Not every supplier will approach these areas in the same way. Our role is to understand how partners operate, identify areas of risk and prioritise relationships that align most closely with our standards and values.

Our approach to due diligence

Before entering into a supplier relationship, Pelorus carries out an assessment appropriate to the nature of the service and destination.

This may include reviewing operational capability, pricing, insurance and licensing, sustainability practices, safety procedures and relevant compliance requirements. Where appropriate, we also consider the supplier’s approach to employees, subcontractors, local communities and the environment.

Approved suppliers are onboarded through our supplier management process and are expected to meet the standards set out in our agreements and related policies.

Human rights and responsible business

Our supplier relationships form an important part of our wider commitment to human rights and responsible business.

We expect partners to respect the dignity and rights of the people connected to their operations, including employees, contractors, guides and local communities. This includes fair treatment, appropriate working conditions and zero tolerance for forced labour, child labour, modern slavery, human trafficking, discrimination and harassment.

These expectations support our broader Human Rights Commitment and help inform how we assess and manage supplier relationships.

Supporting people and places

Travel can create economic opportunity and support conservation and community initiatives, but it can also place pressure on destinations when it is not managed carefully.

Where appropriate, we give preference to partners that demonstrate responsible operating practices, contribute to local economies, respect cultural context and take meaningful steps to reduce their environmental impact.

Recognised sustainability certifications, conservation partnerships and community initiatives can help inform our assessment, but they are considered alongside the wider way a supplier operates rather than treated as evidence in isolation.

Ongoing review

Supplier selection does not end when a relationship begins.

We monitor performance through client feedback, operational reviews, supplier conversations, quality assurance and periodic commercial assessment. Where concerns arise, we work with partners to understand and address them.

Pelorus may suspend or end relationships where suppliers fail to meet required legal, operational, ethical or service standards.

As our business and understanding of responsible travel evolve, we will continue to strengthen how we assess suppliers, communicate our expectations and review performance.
