Expertise

  • I’ve spent six years planning polar and Patagonia expeditions, working closely with expedition leaders, captains and ice pilots to see how far we can push polar travel.

    Skills & Education

  • BA Events Management, University of Greenwich

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Antarctica, Greenland, South Georgia and Svalbard.

Most creative trip planned?

Recreating Ernest Shackleton’s walk across South Georgia, following the route he and his men endured on the Endurance rescue mission. I put together an expedition voyage from Ushuaia to South Georgia, where a small group of hikers and keen historians were dropped at Haakon Bay for a four-day traverse of the island. Once they’d finished the hike and arrived in Grytviken, the group carried on exploring South Georgia on the ship, getting out on the Zodiacs as often as they could. I made sure to leave plenty of time for the wildlife too, with stops at Salisbury Plain and St Andrews Bay, where the king penguins, fur seals and elephant seals are everywhere you look, with wandering albatrosses gliding overhead.

Number one unforgettable travel experience?

Playing football with the locals in Ittoqqortoormiit on a visit to Scoresby Sund in East Greenland. I didn’t see it coming, and it was brilliant. It’s so remote and the conditions are so harsh, but it’s still one of the best pitches I’ve ever played on. Greenlanders love their football, and it’s a great way to break the ice and get chatting.

Top of your travel bucket list?

Papua New Guinea. I love exploring new cultures, and the remote, untouched wilderness and the snorkelling look unbeatable. Ideally on an expedition Yacht.

Who is your ultimate travel partner?

It sounds cliché, but it’s my wife. She’s been my travel partner for the past 20 years. Bonus points that Juliet, our rescue dog from Cyprus, can come along on the adventure too.
