IBERÁ WETLANDS

Your expedition begins in the Iberá Natural Reserve, home to one of Argentina’s most ambitious rewilding projects. Founded by the former CEO of outdoor clothing company Patagonia, Kris Tompkins, and her husband, Doug, the co-founder of North Face, Rewilding Argentina is one of the driving forces behind protecting these vast wetlands, the second largest in the world. Meet with leading conservationists, as they introduce you to their mission and share their stories.

Together with expert guides, set out on foot, horseback, by bike, 4x4 vehicle, or boat - each offering a unique way to discover the wildlife and explore these landscapes. Activities are adapted daily, depending on the reserve’s conservation priorities, and no two days are ever the same. Track reintroduced species like the iconic jaguar, giant anteater and pampas deer on foot or go boating on Laguna Iberá to get closer to caimans, capybaras, and abundant birdlife, looking out for over 350 avian species, including the rare yellow cardinal. Go horseback riding, wading through streams and grasslands to spot marsh deer, and as evening falls, prepare for thrilling wildlife encounters and firefly displays under clear starry skies as you set out on a night safari.

EL IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

The next stop on your journey is the famous El Impenetrable National Park, where the second largest forest in South America can be found. Covering an area one-and-a-half times the size of California, these dense, dry forests of the Gran Chaco stretch from southern Bolivia to northern Argentina and western Paraguay, however over the years they have lost almost a fifth of their size to farmland and cattle ranching. While slowly being recovered, this is one of the most at-risk ecosystems on the planet, and your stay here directly contributes to its protection. A truly off-grid adventure awaits, as you begin your stay at an eco-lodge, settling into your comfortable safari-style tent for the night.

This morning, a private boat is ready to take you to your next destination – a mobile camp set up along the shores of the Bermejo River, just for you. Here, shifting sandbanks offer ideal spots for bird and wildlife watching as you navigate the river to your remote camp for the night, camping under the stars and fully immersing in nature. Waking to the birds’ dawn chorus, pack up camp and cruise further downriver to the next tented eco-lodge for more kayaking, hiking, and cycling adventures or a visit the local village to learn more about the sustainable, community-based tourism in this area, and their partnership with local conservation projects.

PENÍNSULA VALDÉS

Go even more remote as you head south to Patagonia and onward to one of the most extraordinary coastal wildlife sanctuaries on earth, Península Valdés. This area has been granted UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve status, due to its exceptional marine biodiversity and commitment to conservation, and a range of scientific projects with institutions like National Geographic and the BBC are ongoing. Here, you’ll stay at an estancia that spans 100 km² with 20 km of private coastline, in the heart of Valdés’ most wildlife-rich zone.

This is a place where southern right whales breach just offshore, elephant seals gather on secluded beaches, and the cries of orcas echo along the coast; where every activity is crafted not only to bring you closer to this rich biodiversity, but also to the ongoing conservation work that protects it. Guided by local experts and researchers, you’ll trace the coastline, walking the wind-swept paths, and witnessing firsthand the delicate balance between science, land, and wildlife. Daily excursions include 4x4 outings and guided treks to observe wildlife, paleontological sites, and penguin colonies, while private boat tours allow you to witness whales breaching at impossibly close quarters. Here, your days promise not just discovery, but a profound connection to a place where nature leads, and humans follow with respect.

BUENOS AIRES

Your trip concludes in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s thriving capital. This cosmopolitan hub will fascinate you with its special charm and provide invaluable insight into the history and mindset of the country. Delve into a world of tango, steak, Malbec wine, colourful houses, sprawling theatres, museums, iconic avenues and a storied past. With three ecological reserves around Buenos Aires itself, designed to protect nature and improve the city’s climate resilience, even here there is an increasing movement toward a more sustainable future.

Covering 350 hectares, the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is the biggest and most biodiverse of these, providing a vital ecosystem for a vast number of bird and butterfly species. End your time in Argentina with an intimate dinner at the home of a local family, gathering around the table to enjoy exquisite dishes crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, skilfully prepared to showcase authentic Argentine flavours. Reflect on your experiences and share perspectives into the night, where music, singing, or even a bit of impromptu tango dancing promises an unbeatable end to your journey.
