Kashmir, known as “Paradise on Earth”, is an incredibly beautiful region in the northernmost part of India, home to snow-capped mountains and deep, expansive valleys. During the winter months, it becomes a haven for dry powder skiing, attracting adventurers from all over the world seeking an unforgettable winter experience.

Touching down in Srinagar, take in the striking views of the immense Himalayan mountains as you journey towards Gulmarg, located at an altitude of 2,600 metres. Skiing in India is unlike any other ski experience in the world, filled with Kashmiri tradition and benefiting from a completely unique geography, making this a true bucket list destination for ski lovers.

A skier descends a snowy slope, leaving deep tracks in fresh powder, while another skier stands on a ridge above, preparing to descend. Bright sunlight illuminates the scene against a cloudy sky.

Upon your arrival, you will have time to settle in before beginning with safety preparations and a trip briefing. Before hitting the slopes, you’ll be introduced to the thrilling intricacies of heli skiing in India, ensuring you're fully prepared to tackle the wild terrain. Meeting your team of expert guides and pilots, you'll get hands-on with the equipment, ready to embark on an exhilarating adventure.

The best time to go skiing in India is between early January to March, as Gulmarg is coated in fresh snow thanks to storms fed by moisture from the Arabian Sea. These clouds sweep across the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, leaving behind deep layers of powder snow under the clearest, bluest skies imaginable. Temperatures regularly dip below -25°C, creating pristine skiing conditions that rival any other location on the planet. Each season sees around 12-15 feet of snow, perfect for those looking to test their abilities out on pristine powder.

The ultimate way to experience this paradise is from the air. Take to the skies in a helicopter to explore this incredible landscape, touching down at remote drop-off points. Here, you will get an unrivalled skiing experience, being the first to carve new tracks each day. Over the course of six full days spent skiing, you will average 9 jumps and between 10,000 – 16,000 vertical metres a day. Each morning presents new opportunities with varying weather and snow conditions, but one thing is for sure, there is no shortage of adventures to be had.

Enjoy freshly prepared lunches on the mountain and unwind in style with sumptuous dinners in the evenings at your luxury resort. In the event of unfavourable weather for heli skiing, there are many fascinating local villages and towns to explore as well as other ski opportunities. Ski down to the nearby villages of Baba Reshi, Tangmarg and Drung, or set off on a backcountry adventure for a day of guided cat skiing.

Conclude your trip by soaking in the vibrant life of Srinagar, wandering through its traditional bazaars or along the serene Dal Lake, spending time soaking up the rich culture and beauty of the area, before setting off on your onward journey, perhaps for a unique wildlife encounter with playful wild monkeys or to spot the elusive snow leopard. Skiing in India offers an incredible experience for true adventurists.
