THE TALES AND TEMPLES OF TROY

Touching down in Turkey, the old world engulfs your senses. Travel to the historic shores of Çanakkale, the scene of countless tales of myths, gods, and heroes throughout the ages. Here, your immersion into Homer’s ancient poems begins, as you are introduced to the thrilling world of the Iliad and Odyssey, believed to have been composed around 2,700 years ago. Meet your host, a renowned author and leading historian, who will join you this evening for a thematic dining experience and storytelling session, setting the tone for the days to come.

Visiting the Ancient City of Troy on Hisarlık Hill, gain insight into the site’s significance as an archaeologist leads you on a private tour. Go back in time to the first contact between Anatolian, Aegean, and Mediterranean cultures, marvelling at these intricate meetings carved into stone. Travel from Troy to the temple of Apollon Smintheion, where unique relief friezes, based on Homer’s descriptions, illustrate the story of the Trojan War. As the sun sets, watch spellbound as a special performance recounting the fall of Troy takes place amongst the ruins, enhanced by the melody of live instrumental music in this striking setting.

SICILY'S STORIED SHORES

Your quest continues in Sicily, where ancient sites revering the Greek gods of old await in Agrigento. Stay in a luxury hotel dedicated to Athena, complete with views of one of the Valley of the Temple’s most stunning complexes, the Tempio di Giunone. Journey to Selinunte, passing the Necropolis of Sant’Angelo Muxaro, where tombs whisper the legends of Minos and Hades. Let your surroundings be your muse as you take part in a private creative workshop of painting and sketching the Olympian gods, led by a renowned local artist.

Set sail aboard a private yacht to Favignana and Levanzo, feeling as though you have stepped into Homer’s epic as envisioned by film director, Christopher Nolan. These pristine Egadi islands set the stage for The Odyssey's cinematic retelling, where the drama unfolds along the jagged coastline. Walk the same shores that hosted scenes with sirens and sea monsters, blurring the line between classical lore and modern film art. Wander Marettimo’s grottos, listening as the wind matches Homer’s description of Aeolus’ divine residence.

FROM THE AEOLIAN TO THE AMALFI: SHIPS, STRAITS AND SEA MONSTERS

Soar overhead as you helicopter to the city of Messina, home to a stunning fountain honouring Orion, the mythical founder of the city. Step aboard your luxury sailing yacht to navigate the iconic Strait of Messina, home to the fearsome sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, whose presence deemed this a dangerous maritime route. Today, you will have a very different experience than the sailing ships of the past, as you relax onboard your yacht whilst passing between Sicily and mainland Italy. This evening, look out for a dramatic reenactment as Odysseus’ crew takes on the sea monsters in a special evening performance.

Cruise to Vulcano Island, immersing yourself in the rejuvenating sulphur-rich waters of its thermal springs. Next are the spectacular Venus Pools, a shimmering natural oasis, followed by the mystical Grotta del Cavallo. Traverse the island on 4x4s, discovering the Grotte dei Rossi's historic dwellings and the panoramic views of Monte Saraceno. Embark on a guided walk around Panarea, learning of love spells and legends, stopping at Basiluzzo, a unique rock formation featured in The Odyssey. Cruise to Stromboli, known as the “Island of Eternal Fire” due to its active volcano. Set off on an evening trek to the summit, watching at close quarters as glowing lava erupts under the stars.

INTRIGUING ISCHIA AND THE CALL OF CAPRI

Your voyage continues in Li Galli, where three islets form a core part of the original story. Legend has it, they were inhabited by the Sirens, part human, part supernatural female creatures who would seduce passing sailors with their alluring song. In the present day, these crystal blue waters are filled with marine life, perfect for snorkelling and water activities. For those seeking more adventure, the day can be spent hiking up the Sentiero degli Dei, or “The Path of the Gods”.

Uncover Capri’s spectacular coast, including the renowned Blue Grotto and Tiberius’ Leap, before venturing to secret beach caves via your yacht’s private tender, away from the crowds. Discover the finest of crafts, including everything from cashmere to ceramics, and dine at an excellent local trattoria. Tender ashore, setting off on a fleet of e-bikes to discover the island. Ride through tiny villages to the Bay of San Montano, following trails used by Barbary pirates in the 16th century, over 2000 years after the events of the Odyssey. Here, your journey comes to a close at the symbolic Ischia Castle, where a private after-hours visit with the curator and a feast fit for the gods awaits.
