Co-Founder Jimmy Carroll hits the road again, with an appetite for adventure, he explores more of his home in the US… this time to untamed Alaska.

Jimmy’s Alaskan adventure was one to be envied, he spent his days moving from one of our favourite luxury accommodations to the next, exploring new and intrepid experiences for our prospective clients for trips to come, and building on existing expertise. Reconnecting with nature in one of the most remote destinations in the world, Alaska is truly the ultimate destination for outdoor adventure.

To experience the best that Alaska could offer, Jimmy stayed at a variety of remote lodges providing vastly different experiences. This recce combined the opportunity to relax in complete seclusion, yet be surrounded by wilderness with endless opportunities for exploration. Tutka Bay Lodge, Alaska

To begin this thrilling trip, Jimmy arrived at Tutka Bay Lodge, a warm and comforting haven located in a private cove of a nine mile fjord on the edge of Kachemak Bay State Park. Engulfed in utmost privacy with exclusive access to the Alaskan wilderness, Jimmy’s extraordinary adventure had commenced. 

Providing uninterrupted ocean views from its numerous windows, Tutka offers the perfect home-from-home setting for those seeking comfort after a long day of discovery. The dining experience in this wilderness lodge is far from what you might expect. Serving food from an award-winning Cordon Bleu-trained chef, the cuisine focuses on food gathering and preparation to bring sea-to-table authentic Alaskan fare.

Eager for adventure, Jimmy took to the sky by helicopter to set his sights on the brown bears and moose who graze along the shoreline and in sedge grass fields. Returning to the ground the search continued with an unforgettable hiking experience. Jimmy’s hunt for wildlife didn’t stop there as he paddled along Tutka Bay by kayak in search of local seabirds and curious otters. 

Sheldon Chalet, Alaska

Continuing his epic journey, Jimmy flew to Sheldon Chalet, a luxurious destination to explore. Perched on a nunataq above the Don Sheldon Amphitheatre, this incredible retreat is just ten miles from the summit of Denali. Situated high and away from civilisation, the only sound to be heard was the wind around the peaks. The observation deck jutting out from the main space provides ample opportunities to see some of the clearest skies in the world, as well as the majestic light show of the Aurora Borealis.

Alongside knowledgeable experts, here Jimmy received the exciting opportunity to experience life on an incredibly remote glacier. One of his most memorable excursions was snowshoe glacial trekking to explore deep crevasses hidden amid the varied icy terrain.

Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, Alaska

The secluded Tordrillo Mountain Lodge provided the perfect home from home for Jimmy in Alaska, as he continued his adventure.

This remote luxury sporting lodge sits in a clutch of trees looking out on to the pristine waters of Judd Lake and the Talachulitna River, a sight to behold. The sprawling estate offers a number of exclusive lodges boasting large windows to soak up as much of the picturesque landscape as possible and are gourmet catered.

After a long day of discovery Jimmy would return to the lodge and recoup in the copper hot tub and sauna. The gourmet meals didn’t go a miss, the dishes featured seasonal herbs and fresh vegetables from the garden, but Jimmy got great satisfaction from eating the fresh fish he caught that day.
