Location

Located within a private concession in the northwest of the Okavango Delta, Sitatunga Private Island Camp is entirely water-based and is one of the few places in the world where you can sight the rare sitatunga antelope, after which the camp is named.

Surrounded by shimmering waterways, it blends into the natural landscape of the delta and you can also expect herds of wading elephants, Nile crocodiles, hippos bobbing on the surface, and a myriad of birdlife.

Design

There are just three large rooms here, each sitting high among the trees on a wooden deck made entirely from recycled materials. Split into a main camp with two rooms and a larger family suite, the design of this exclusive camp is inspired by the bamboo baskets used by indigenous fishermen here in the Delta. Surrounded by water, there are verandas and private plunge pools from which to admire the surrounding waterways from.

Water Activities

As the camp is surrounded by water, the activities follow suit and are predominantly water-based. Explore the Delta’s channels by mokoro(traditional canoe) for a peaceful wildlife viewing experience. Or, head out in a slightly larger boat with swivel chairs to aid photographers get the perfect shot. There’s also tag-and-release fishing and guided walks along the water’s edge. For something truly special, take a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta, complete with a champagne stop at one of the Delta’s other islands.

Sustainability

Through Project Ranger, Sitatunga, as part of the Great Plains collection, supports the anti-poaching operations of NGOs in Botswana and across Africa, ensuring rangers have the resources they need to do their best work in conservation and trafficking hotspots. The camp is also built from recycled and reclaimed wood, with no plastic in sight.
