Design

There are 150 individual suites (or hales) here, each paying homage to the resort’s legacy by weaving in artisanal Hawaiian touches with modern finishes. Choose from a collection of one to four-bedroom configurations, each offering stunning views of the gardens, lagoon, mountains, or the ocean. Inside/outside living is naturally a theme here, with the interiors blurring the boundary between the two, courtesy of carefully selected natural materials, custom furnishings, and expansive private lanais.

Amenities

As with the rest of Kona Village, the leisure facilities have been revamped, with a fitness center, multiple pools, and tennis courts. There’s also world-class wellness – housed in Asaya Spa – that spotlights time-honored practices and local ingredients, channelling the healing powers of the earth. Built into the black lava flow with views of the volcano, the six treatment rooms have retractable walls so guests can enjoy the island breeze whilst unwinding.

Culinary experience

Dining at Kona Village is excellent, with a diverse culinary offering meaning there’s something for everyone. As is common in Hawaii, dishes are made up of fresh ingredients locally grown and lots of seafood. There’s Moana restaurant serving Pacific Rim-to-table cuisine, while Kahuwai Cookhouse and Market offers simple, nourishing food all day. Two icons from the resort’s past – Shipwreck Bar and Talk Story Bar – have been lovingly restored, and offer incredible cocktails paired with equally incredible views.

Sustainability

  • The guest hales are all entirely comprised of recycled materials

  • The resort is one of the largest privately owned microgrids in the state, using 100% solar power provided by over 8,000 solar panels over two acres of land

  • They have a zero-waste initiative with reverse osmosis and wastewater treatment plants on-site

  • Kona Village fosters relationships and collaborations with several local organisations for the protection and restoration of the island, its animals, and its resources

  • The resort has an on-site farm, growing everything from fresh coconuts and limes to their iconic canoe plants
