Luxury Tanzania Vacations

Your Luxury Tanzania Safari with Pelorus

Tanzania is a land of striking contrasts, where vast savannas meet the Indian Ocean and ancient cultures continue to shape life across some of Africa's most extraordinary landscapes. Here, travel becomes something closer to immersion: the landscapes, the people, and the wildlife change how you see the world. Gain rare insight into East Africa's tribal communities, learn how coastal communities have thrived for generations, track threatened species on foot with expert guides, or take to the skies by helicopter over national parks in search of lions, wildebeest, and giraffes. Evenings are spent in secluded camps deep in the wilderness, close to the wildlife and far from the crowds.

Our team combines military precision, bold creativity, and relationships with the continent's most respected trackers and naturalists to design journeys that cannot be replicated. Every detail is personally overseen by our Travel Designers: stepping behind the scenes of conservation projects, tracking endangered species alongside anti-poaching units, beading with Maasai matriarchs, or gathering wild honey with tribal elders.

Top Places to Visit in Tanzania

Here are Pelorus’ expert-recommended destinations and places to visit across each region, curated for exceptional travel experiences.

Wildebeest herd safari in Tanzania

Northern Tanzania

Best for private wildlife viewings

Northern Tanzania delivers the country’s most iconic landscapes and highest concentrations of wildlife. The Serengeti is synonymous with the Great Migration, millions of wildebeest and zebra moving in rhythm with the rains, followed closely by predators. In private reserves like Grumeti, exclusivity and privacy elevate the experience further. The Ngorongoro Crater offers exceptional densities of lions, black rhino, elephant, and plains game within a unique volcanic caldera. Tarangire’s ancient baobabs and elephant herds provide a quieter, more atmospheric safari; Lake Manyara adds birdlife, forests, and diverse terrain.

Trek through Tanzania landscape

Southern Tanzania

Best for wilderness

Southern Tanzania remains one of Africa’s last great untouched wilderness area, defined by scale, solitude and a more raw safari experience. Ruaha stands out for its rugged terrain, high predator density and baobab-studded landscapes, where walking safaris and fly-camping bring you closer to the environment. In contrast, Nyerere is shaped by rivers, lakes and floodplains, offering boating safaris, fishing and a more varied, adventure-led way to explore. With far fewer visitors than the northern circuit, this region is ideally suited to those seeking privacy, seclusion and a deeper sense of immersion.

Chimp sat in the trees in Tanzania

Western Tanzania

Best for remote wilderness

Remote, difficult to reach, and utterly extraordinary, Western Tanzania offers some of the continent’s most isolated and distinctive safari experiences. Katavi is a place of vast plains and enormous hippo pods, all experienced without the presence of crowds. In contrast, the Mahale Mountains rise dramatically from the shores of Lake Tanganyika, offering one of Africa’s most remarkable opportunities to track wild chimpanzees on foot. This region is best suited to travelers seeking something truly different, combining deep wilderness with a strong sense of rarity and discovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tanzania is located in East Africa. To the east, it meets the Indian Ocean, offering both stunning coastlines and access to the Zanzibar archipelago.

As direct international flights to Tanzania from the UK and US are not yet available, a layover in Nairobi is often the best point of entry. Here, time in the city can be enjoyed before continuing to Tanzania, via Arusha, where your safari begins. Alternatively, international flights from the US via Amsterdam or Paris operate to Tanzania.

A privately chartered airplane is one of the most efficient and comfortable ways to travel, providing a unique and private experience to witness the landscapes from, while reducing journey times and maximising your time on safari. Scheduled light aircraft flights also operate multiple times a day between domestic airports and private airstrips.

While Tanzania is world-renowned for its extraordinary safaris, there’s so much more to discover beyond the game drive. We offer a transformative twist on the traditional safari experience, arranging incredibly rare encounters with local tribes including the Hadza and Maasai communities, where you will learn their way of life. Travel through remote, low-altitude villages and have the unique opportunity to deliver life-saving aid, such as malaria nets and LifeStraws, to communities in need.

A Tanzania honeymoon strikes the perfect balance between adventure and laid-back luxury. Begin with a safari deep in the wilderness, tracking the Big Five, encountering incredible wildlife, and connecting with local tribes. Then fly to Zanzibar’s white-sand beaches and turquoise waters. Stay at five-star hotels in Tanzania and exclusive lodges handpicked by our team as well as the best luxury hotels in Zanzibar. Our team will ensure your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, whether its private access to leading wildlife experts or a remote camp set up just for you in the heart of the wilderness, every detail is designed around your vision.

The Great Migration Africa is one of the most incredible wildlife spectacles on the planet, and a large part of it unfolds in Tanzania. Each year, over two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles make a dramatic circular journey across the Serengeti National Park, following seasonal rains in search of fresh grazing.

In Tanzania, the best time to witness the Great Migration is from July to October, when the herds cross crocodile-infested rivers in the northern Serengeti. Pelorus offers a unique way to view this incredible natural phenomenon from above. Soar above the crowds in a helicopter for a panoramic view like no other. Earlier in the year, from January to March, the southern Serengeti comes alive as calving season begins, attracting predators and providing dramatic wildlife encounters.

However, there is much to see throughout the year, as the animals in the Serengeti plains of Africa, including lions, elephants, cheetahs, and more, create a dynamic and ever-changing safari experience.

Tanzania offers a wide range of exceptional beach destinations, from the vibrant shores of Zanzibar to more secluded and exclusive islands. Mnemba Island is known for its private, barefoot luxury, while Mafia Island offers a quieter atmosphere with outstanding marine life. For true seclusion, Fanjove provides a castaway feel, and Thanda Island delivers ultra-private luxury in a protected marine reserve, together showcasing the country’s mix of culture, natural beauty and exclusivity.
