Whilst respecting its wilderness surroundings, the entire lodge was built using local materials to radiate a rustic style throughout. Etched into the hillside and Borana’s well-kept gardens lies charming thatched stone cottages, each very different from the next. Oozing an authentic African feel, interior subtle tones reflect their natural surroundings creating an inviting ambience. Colored fabrics brighten the furniture and spacious en-suite bathrooms provide fabulous vistas. After dusk, the open fireplace will be lit providing a warm, glowing room to return to after dinner.

Cuisine

A homely environment greets you from the main house where floor-to-ceiling windows, generous sofas and a huge fireplace fills the comfortable sitting room. After a sociable refreshment at the bar, a delectable three-course meal in the elegant dining room awaits. Delight in breakfast alfresco and a tasty array of fresh delicacies from the lunch pavilion boasting hypnotic views over the conservancy. With a farm-to-table approach, expect locally sourced ingredients from Waitabit Farm, Borana’s fascinating Permaculture project and now East Africa’s largest. Experience the farm first-hand, gain an understanding of the project and combine this with a wonderful riverbank lunch that’s fresh from the garden.

Sustainability

Earnings retained through Borana Conservancy’s commercial activities support the increased costs of conservation. Each guest automatically makes a contribution to conservation, thus enabling Borana to continue along its sustainable journey. On top of this the majority of food served at Borana Lodge is sourced locally from Waitabit Farm, a large Permaculture project.

Borana has a holistic approach to sustainable conservation whereby neighbors and communities are involved in their mission to boost ecosystem integrity for critically endangered species.

Why we love it

Encounter fantastic African wildlife with no other vehicle around. Borana’s private conservation area means ultimate exclusivity when on safari, providing a more personal, tranquil and memorable experience.
