Situated on the southern tip of the Isle of Jura in the Inner Hebrides, tucked away on 12,000 acres of private, flourishing wilderness, Ardfin is the ideal escape to spend time reconnecting with nature. Undergoing a decade-long transformation, this sprawling cliffside estate has been restored to beyond its former splendor and offers mesmerizing sea views, with the Isle of Islay in the distance.

Design

Originally one of Ardfin’s agricultural buildings, The Quads has been rebuilt into an exclusive 13-bedroom (plus two two-bedroom apartments) hotel. Each bedroom is charmingly rustic and unique, embodying the perfect combination of minimalism and luxury. Interiors were designed to honor the area’s rich Scottish history and authenticity, choosing a multitude of original Scottish artworks and vintage artifacts to furnish the rooms, with fabrics and wallpapers sourced from local wool mills.

Activities

With thousands of acres to explore, there’s so much to do across the entire Ardfin Estate and beyond. The wide range of activities spans from kayaking, fishing, whale and dolphin watching, and traversing the wild landscape as you walk the many paths of Jura. Or, embark on a whisky tour to sample some of Scotland’s most famous tipples as you head out on a tasting tour of each unique distillery on Jura and Islay – 10 in all.

Cuisine

Scotland is famed for its incredible ingredients (think lobster, wild salmon and venison), which Ardfin puts at the heart of its menus. Dine in The Ceilidh Barn, where you can enjoy space to relax and sample whisky after your meal well into the evening.

Why we love it

The star of the show here is undoubtedly the golf course. Designed and built by legendary golf architect Bob Harrison, the course is wild and rugged and has been designed to minimize interference with nature. The result? A challenging cliffside landscape with narrow greens and fewer bunkers than most courses worthy of every golfer’s bucket list.
