Savannah Varty

Senior Product Executive

Growing up on a safari lodge in South Africa, Savannah developed a deep love for the natural world from an early age, traveling across Africa with her parents as they filmed wildlife documentaries and supported conservation projects. Her childhood was spent in tented camps in Kenya and Zambia, often alongside lion cubs and the occasional warthog. After earning her degree in Cape Town, she explored life abroad, working a ski season in Aspen and later joining a London design agency while nurturing her love of writing. Adventure took her backpacking across Europe and volunteering at a Tuscan wine farm, before returning to the UK to specialize in African and Indian Ocean travel. Eventually, she returned home to qualify as a safari guide, blending her passions for conservation, storytelling, and travel, now brought together in her role at Pelorus.

Savannah

Number one unforgettable travel experience?

Returning to the Maasai Mara in Kenya after twenty years and being reunited with the same warrior who had performed a naming ceremony for me and formed a friendship with my family. I was given the name ‘Nashipai’, which translates to ‘The Happy One’, and he had traveled specially to come and see me and warmly welcome me back.

Top of your travel bucket list?

Tracking jaguars in the Pantanal or gorilla trekking in Rwanda or Uganda. I can’t decide which tops my list but seeing these animals in the wild and supporting the conservation projects dedicated to protecting them is a life goal.

Who is your ultimate travel partner?

Trevor Noah. A fellow South African with an incredible sense of humour and possibly the best imitator of accents out there – I know we’d have a blast.
