Discovering Dolpo

A luxury trekking expedition in western Nepal

From October 2026

RARE ACCESS TO AN EXCLUSIVE DOLPO TREK IN NEPAL

Deep in the Himalayas, Nepal's Dolpo region remains one of the world's least-trodden and most remote landscapes on earth. Home to ancient cultures, this region has remained largely restricted to the outside world.

From this October, Pelorus is offering a small number of luxury travellers the rare opportunity to experience a Dolpo trek unlike any other, and stay in a private fully staffed and serviced mobile camp within this extraordinary location.

How the Journey Unfolds

A private helicopter carries you into the restricted Dolpo region, where expert guides lead an extraordinary Dolpo trekking experience through some of the Himalayas' most untouched terrain. Explore remote mountain villages on foot or horseback, visit an ancient Bonpo settlement and move through valleys where few have ever set foot. Each evening, a private mobile camp is erected in the wild beneath star-filled skies.

Along the way, leading conservationists featured in the Snow Leopard Sisters documentary will join the trek, offering rare insight into life in this remote ecosystem, their encounters with snow leopards, and their ongoing efforts to protect the region's biodiversity. The expedition culminates in a crossing of the journey's highest pass to reach the fabled spiritual heart of Western Nepal, before returning to Kathmandu by private helicopter.

Dolpo Trekking Highlights

Kathmandu: Where the Journey Begins

Your journey begins in Kathmandu, immersing into the Nepalese culture including a private audience with a Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader and visiting one of the world's largest Buddhist stupas.

MUSTANG: THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM

A private helicopter journey to Mustang. Here, explore remote mountain villages on foot or horseback and visit an ancient Bonpo village, meeting members of a spiritual tradition that predates Buddhism. Visit the sacred temple of Muktinath and the medieval alleys of Kagbeni, where life has remained largely unchanged for generations.

SNOW LEOPARD SISTERS: INTO THE WILD

Join leading conservationists featured in the Snow Leopard Sisters documentary, offering a rare, behind-the-scenes perspective on protecting one of the world's most remote ecosystems and the snow leopards that roam it.

DOLPO: SLEEP UNDER THE STARS

Each evening, your private mobile camp is erected in a new location, allowing guests to sleep beneath star-filled skies, wake beside glacier-fed lakes and move through valleys where few have ever set foot.

What our travel experts say

“The Dolpo region is extraordinarily difficult to reach, and that is precisely what has kept it as it is. This adventure moves guests deeper into the region than conventional trekking allows, using helicopters to access terrain that would otherwise take weeks on foot. A private mobile camp opens up different corners of this landscape, erected and dismantled without trace. And the extraordinary people guests meet along the way, from remote Himalayan communities to the conservationists protecting the snow leopard population, are as much a part of the journey as the landscape itself."

The Final Pass

The journey culminates in a crossing of the expedition's highest pass to reach Shey Gompa, the fabled spiritual heart of western Nepal. A place where almost no tourist has reached. The return to Kathmandu by private helicopter marks the end of an expedition unlike any other.
