Boasting the third longest coastline in the Indian Ocean, Mozambique is home to an incredible number of underwater species, from grey reef sharks, giant trevally and manta rays to humpback whales and dolphins. On this adventure, you will spend seven nights in paradise, catching sight of and interacting with as many of these as possible, both by boat and beneath the waves, as you snorkel and dive in the warm ocean waters.

Take your pick of arriving by light aircraft, helicopter or boat transfer from the country’s capital city of Maputo, or even via a privately chartered airplane, flying in directly from any of the neighboring countries’ safari lodges. Upon landing, you will be warmly welcomed by the team at Colina Verde, a luxurious, exclusive-use private villa and your home for the next week.

This morning, rise early and get ready for an action-packed few days, both on land and at sea. You will meet with a team of marine researchers and conservationists, along with an award-winning wildlife photographer and filmmaker, who will be documenting your experience and creating your very own short film. Following your briefing, hop aboard a high-speed RIB and head out for your first day of conservation work. With two boats at your disposal, you will also have the opportunity to also go fishing and scuba diving while out at sea, ensuring that you have ultimate flexibility.

With variable tides and depending on the marine life sightings, your days could vary, but the beauty of this is that there is no set schedule, and your team will be able to guide you on your time at sea – with mornings spent diving to change out acoustic receivers and deploy new ones for up to five apex reef predators, as well as assisting with other data collection, such as sizing and DNA sampling. You will also take part in observing marine mammals, photographing flukes and observing the behaviour and movements of both humpback dolphins and whales.  These activities will form part of Indocet’s research on migratory patterns, the first ever of its kind in Mozambique, giving you the chance to leave a lasting legacy – and the opportunity to name your own whale.

After an epic conservation-focused start to the day, your afternoons can be spent enjoying all that is on offer at this beautiful coastal paradise. From snorkelling pristine reefs and picnic lunches on nearby islands, or sandboarding the dunes and kayaking through mangroves, to scuba diving down to 100-year-old shipwrecks followed by sunset cruises aboard restored dhow boats, the options are endless.

End your trip on the ultimate high by taking to the skies for a scenic helicopter flight over Maputo National Park, over the wide-spread protected area of land and back up the coastline for the chance to see both elephants and whales in the same flight – a truly unique phenomenon.
