Suyian Lodge

Laikipia, Kenya

Overview

Suyian Lodge is a striking icon in northern Kenya, where sculptural architecture overlooks vast, unfenced wilderness. Set within a private 44,000-acre conservancy, it offers the best of safari lodges in Kenya, with extraordinary views, rare wildlife encounters and a profound sense of space and solitude.

Key Features

  • With 14 open-fronted suites, each featuring expansive views and a private rim-flow plunge pool, Suyian Lodge offers an intimate safari experience where contemporary luxury is seamlessly woven into the wilderness.
  • Set dramatically along the escarpment of the vast Suyian Conservancy, the safari lodge’s sculptural architecture of natural stone and flowing forms creates a connection with sweeping plains, ancient kopjes, the Ewaso Narok River and distant Mount Kenya.
  • Experiences are highly bespoke, from game drives and guided nature walks to horseback safaris, cultural encounters and private helicopter flights across Kenya’s remote landscapes.
  • Sustainability sits at the core of the lodge’s philosophy, operating entirely off grid with solar power, responsible water management, waste reduction initiatives and rewilding programs that actively protect the surrounding ecosystem.

Location

Suyian Lodge is set deep within northern Kenya’s Laikipia region, overlooking the vast, protected wilderness of the northern Suyian Conservancy. An important anchor to the area is the Rock Sanctuary, a mesmerizing formation of ancient stone boulders that rise dramatically from the landscape. Facing these mighty structures on the edge of the escarpment, the lodge enjoys an extraordinary vantage point above sweeping plains scattered with granite rocky outcrops. From here, the Ewaso Narok River winds through the landscape to the east, with Mount Kenya visible on the horizon on clear days.

Design

The design of Suyian Lodge draws on the granite rocks and hardy plant life that define the surrounding landscape. Its softly curved architecture, crowned with indigenous vegetation, mirrors the undulating ridge beyond and blends effortlessly into the environment. Interiors follow an Afro Wabi-Sabi philosophy, embracing natural textures, muted tones and the beauty of imperfection. Subtle cultural references to local semi-nomadic tribes are layered throughout, and the lodge amenities include a spa and wellness space, a communal infinity pool overlooking the plains, open-air dining areas, bar, and inviting communal lounges to relax in after a day spent on safari.

Activities

Activities at Suyian Lodge are designed to immerse you in the wild beauty and cultural richness of the Suyian Conservancy. Guided game drives and nature walks reveal the region’s diverse wildlife, while horseback and camel safaris offer a slower, more intimate way to explore the landscape. Ancient rock art site explorations, community visits with local Samburu and Pokot tribes, and scenic helicopter tours showcase the dramatic terrain from above. Between adventures, time can be spent unwinding with wellness experiences or simply absorbing the views. Dining is flexible and atmospheric, with menus inspired by seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and served in a range of settings, from the main lodge and open-air terraces to private bush dinners beneath the stars.

Sustainability

Suyian Lodge is part of a broader conservation-led initiative that has transformed a former cattle ranch into the 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy, now managed to protect wildlife and restore ecological balance. The conservancy operates under a not-for-profit trust and a long-term partnership between andBeyond and global charity Space for Giants, making tourism a self-financing engine for nature conservation and community benefit. By staying at the lodge, you directly support anti-poaching, habitat protection and community development efforts, helping sustain biodiversity corridors and local education and healthcare programs.

Why we love it

The standout feature of Suyian Lodge is that it feels utterly inseparable from the striking landscape that surrounds it. It truly seems to emerge naturally from the rock itself, creating a powerful sense of place where design, wilderness and silence combine to deliver one of Kenya’s most atmospheric and grounding luxury safari lodges.
