Wild Hill

Maasai Mara, Kenya

Overview

On the Northern edge of Kenya’s Maasai Mara sits Wild Hill, an exclusive safari villa with panoramic views of the Mara plains. Situated on the highest point of a private 45,000-acre conservancy, Wild Hill offers guests a luxurious stay in one of the world’s best safari destinations.

Key Features

  • Generously outfitted to accommodate and entertain up to 10 adults and 4 children, the villa features five cottage-sized suites, all with sweeping views, and comes complete with an infinity pool, hot tub, wine cellar, gym and pickleball court.
  • Exceptional safari guides provide a wealth of local knowledge, ensuring each day’s activities are perfectly planned – from 4x4 game drives, bush walks, helicopter excursions, community visits and more.
  • Dining ranges from casual family-style meals to carefully curated tasting menus. Fruit and veg is grown in the villa’s vegetable garden, and fresh, ethically sourced produce comes directly from a local farm run by Wild Hill’s owners.
  • Wild Hill’s spa is state-of-the-art, complete with a sauna and cold plunge pool, offering traditional massages and bespoke wellness treatments, guided meditations, and restorative rooftop yoga sessions.

Location

Set high atop Kileleoni Hill, Wild Hill boasts an enviable position overlooking the expansive Maasai Mara. Traversing this land once a year, more than a million wildebeest migrate from Tanzania’s Serengeti, unfurling into the Maasai Mara plains in search for fresh grass. The conservancies surrounding Kileleoni Hill host over seventy mammal species, where buffalo bathe in low-lying riverbanks and leopards skulk in the shadows of tall whispering grass. Only a short helicopter flight or 45-minute drive from Naretoi and Ngerende airstrips, Wild Hill is a remote yet accessible safari destination that offers expansive views of the great Mara Serengeti ecosystem.

Design

Wild Hill is an ode to its surrounding natural environment. Built from stone excavated from the hillside itself, the villa is quite literally rooted in the land it surveys. Living grass roofs allow the architecture to blend with the grassy landscape, while indigenous landscaping echoes the region’s rich biodiversity. Each of the five suites features neutral, earthy tones, high ceilings and Omani mirrors that reflect the natural sunlight so that the walls radiate a soft, warm glow. As night falls, a fireplace and flickering candles illuminate the main lodge, where you can find the lounge, spa, a well-stocked bar, and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that pan open to the infinity pool with a view of the grasslands beyond.

Activities

From private, morning and afternoon game drives, bush walks, wildlife photography sessions, and wild foraging, days at the villa unfold entirely at your own pace. Head out on a hot air balloon or helicopter flight that soars over flamingos in Lake Magdi, land for a picnic by the waterfall in the Loita forest, or visit the rhino sanctuary at the bottom of Kileleoni Hill. Back at the lodge, ancient therapies and aromatherapy massages are practiced at the Wild Wellness Spa, where sound bowls, cold plunges and fire saunas invigorate the mind and body. Between dips in the pool, yoga on the rooftop deck, a game of pickleball, and alfresco-style dining with locally grown produce, you will find that the villa has been thoughtfully designed to ensure both adults and children are endlessly entertained.

Sustainability

Wild Hill is a beacon of positive, community-driven conservation, thoughtfully fusing sustainability with luxury.  The villa is entirely powered by a 24-hour supply of solar energy, and members of local communities are involved in running the property. The owners of Collection in the Wild are also the founders of Futures in the Wild, a program encompassing various initiatives aimed at restoring biodiversity, educating local communities and empowering women. Every stay at Wild Hill directly funds the preservation of the surrounding wilderness and its local landowners, and there are a myriad of opportunities for guests to participate in conservation projects in the surrounding area.

Why we love it

The Maasai Mara is known as one of Africa’s Seven Wonders for good reason. Since the earliest days of safari, it has been a beacon for wildlife lovers, particularly during the Great Migration. We love that due to its exclusive location on a private conservancy away from other lodges, Wild Hill avoids the crowds and makes this remarkable event easily accessible.
