When it comes to experiential travel and adventure, the term ‘luxury’ has a different meaning to different people. For some, it may be a totally stripped out back-to-nature experience, foraging for wild bounty on the shore; for others, an ensuite canvas tent with a white tablecloth supper and private chef. What makes these camps particularly special is that they are set up in off-grid locations, far from any artificial noise, light pollution, and people.

Agafay Desert, Morocco

An epic mission, at the request of adventure-seeking teenagers, saw a family embark on a high-octane dune buggy adventure into the Agafay Desert: Destination? Unknown. On approach, the desert mirage unveiled an elaborately decked-out custom-built camp, with Moroccan inspired interiors and a mesmerising dune backdrop.

The next morning, following an adrenaline-fuelled day and evening of al fresco fine-dining under the stars, the group enjoyed a relaxed breakfast in the isolated beauty of the desert before saddling-up for a leisurely camel ride to their next luxury camp, further off-grid.

Empty Quarter, Oman

A memorable trip to Oman saw us traverse the desert landscape deep into the heart of the Empty Quarter and set up luxury Bedouin tents for our guests, who made their arrival by helicopter. Tucked away from civilisation, these intimate and totally unique luxury tents’ earthy interiors echoed Arabian folktales. Miles and miles of golden sand dunes and arid expanses stretched to the horizon and far beyond–a small luxury camp set within this enormous landscape is the perfect spot from which to explore the undiscovered. As evening fell, our guests enjoyed dinner around a campfire in total seclusion, under a blanket of stars.

Bariloche, Argentina

One particularly special day in the hushed haven of Bariloche started on horseback, as our honeymoon couple rode through mystical forests to reach a vast glacial lake. Here, they got into kayaks and paddled across to find their wild camp: a luxury dome tent tucked into the trees, lit by candles with a table under canvas overlooking the water. A private chef whipped up a concoction of incredible delicacies over a wildfire and an astronomer joined them as night fell to talk through some of the constellations overhead.

Highlands, Scotland

Late August, on a family holiday in the Highlands, our guests embarked on an intrepid RIB adventure to discover a variety of birdlife and explore uninhabited islands. As they neared the shore, rounding a section of craggy coastline, they caught a first glimpse of a surprise BBQ on the sandy swathes of a private beach; featuring a beautifully prepared table, sheltered under a luxury canvas tent. Here, their private chef cooked fresh lobster and scallops, all of which were caught a stone’s throw from where they were sitting – the epitome of modern and luxurious al fresco dining.
